Durban harbour pax terminal gets upgrade
THE N-shed passenger terminal in the Port of Durban has
received an upgrade to cope with an increase in demand.
Improvements include added signage, balustrades, turnstiles
and awnings as well as new ramps, a new fast track lounge,
immigration and check-in desks, new baggage scanners and
conveyor belts, an air-conditioning system, extra seating, a backup
generator and an uninterrupted power supply. With South
African annual cruise growth at record levels, Allan Foggitt, sales
and marketing director for MSC Cruises, says the time was right
to improve efficiency. As such, MSC entered into a joint initiative
with Transnet National Ports Authority to upgrade the existing
passenger terminal. “The upgraded terminal will be able to
process 5 000 passengers in a five-hour period,” says Allan.
G Adventures launches river cruising

G ADVENTURES has launched a new river cruise programme
targeting younger travellers. The nine itineraries vary in
length from eight to 15 days and explore iconic waterways in
Cambodia, France, India, Peru and Vietnam. Each riverboat
is purpose-built to create a ‘local’ feel to the on-board
environment. Every cabin has windows and a private bath and
there are open deck spaces for travellers to enjoy the vistas.
Group sizes are small (22 to 30 passengers). A Chief Experience
Officer, trained to develop guests’ understanding of the regions,
leads each trip. Departures begin in 2016 with the exception of
the existing Amazon River Adventure, which is already running.
