Emirates plans WiFi over North Pole

Passengers flying to and from the US on Emirates will get WiFi, mobile service connectivity and live TV broadcast while flying over the North Pole and Arctic Circle by 2022.

Currently, aircraft flying over the polar region can lose connectivity for up to four hours due to the location of satellites in relation to the pole.

Emirates’ partner, Inmarsat, will provide coverage by adding two orbiting satellites.

Travellers in all cabin classes receive 20MB of free WiFi data or unlimited use of messaging apps for two hours.
