Emirates to restore Nigerian flights

06 Sep 2022

Emirates Airline will resume flights to Lagos from September 11. This comes after the airline announced it was going to suspend services to the country on September 1.

A notice sent to travel agents in Nigeria – obtained from Peacock Travels and Royal Almond Travels – said the Dubai-based carrier would resume four flights a week to Murtala Muhammed International Airport, reports Nigerian news outlet, Punch.

The flights are scheduled for Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Flight EK783 departs Dubai at 10h20 and arrives in Lagos at 15h00. Flight EK784 departs Lagos at 18h15 and arrives in Dubai at 05h00 the following day.

This schedule will only operate until September 30, with flights beyond that date “to be advised in due course”, according to the notice.

The news of the reinstated flights follows the Central Bank of Nigeria’s decision to release US$256m (R4,4bn) in funds owed to foreign airlines, as the country is currently battling a forex crisis.

Delta Air Lines has also suspended flights to the West African nation and has not yet communicated whether it is going to restore the service.
