AmaWaterways opens 2028 bookings with four new ships

AmaWaterways has opened bookings for its 2028 river cruise programme, introducing four new ships, additional itineraries and expanded pre- and post-cruise land experiences across Europe and Africa.

According to Cruise Industry News, the new fleet additions will include AmaMaria on the Rhine, AmaGaia on Portugal’s River Douro, a second new vessel on the Douro and another ship on the Chobe, where it will join the Zambezi Queen.

AmaMaria will feature 76 staterooms and the next-generation design introduced on sister ship AmaFiora, scheduled to debut in April next year. The two new Douro vessels will join AmaDouro and AmaSintra, increasing capacity in Portugal and extending the region’s sailing season through November and December.

The new Chobe River vessel will expand the company’s African offering, providing additional opportunities to explore the region’s wildlife and landscapes by river.

AmaWaterways is also introducing a 10- and 11-night Elegance of Burgundy & Provence itinerary aboard AmaCello in July and August 2028. Sailing along the Rhône and Saône, the itinerary will offer more time in port to explore the wine regions, historic towns and culinary traditions of Burgundy and Provence.

The 2028 programme will also feature expanded land packages, including three-night stays in Krakow and Brussels, and two-night extensions in Nuremberg, Lyon, Aix-en-Provence, Dijon, Porto, Basel and Luxembourg.

The Krakow package includes a city tour, a visit to Schindler’s Factory and a full-day excursion to Auschwitz. The Nuremberg extension includes visits to the Imperial Castle and Art Bunkers, as well as a walking tour of Bayreuth and its UNESCO-listed Opera House.
