QF to launch CPT route

Qantas has announced plans to launch nonstop flights between Cape Town and Sydney on October 19, 2027.

The seasonal service will operate three times a week, on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays, until March 25, 2028, on a B787 Dreamliner. Tickets go on sale today.

The new route will add almost 30 000 seats between South Africa and Australia, complementing Qantas' existing Johannesburg services to Sydney and Perth.

Passengers will also have onward connections across Qantas' domestic network, including Melbourne and Brisbane, as well as to New Zealand.

“South Africans will have a new seamless way to travel to Australia, whether that’s to visit family and friends, explore the country or connect onwards through our domestic network. The timing also couldn’t be better with the Rugby World Cup in Australia taking place just as our flights begin, giving Springbok fans a new direct way to travel to Sydney for the biggest games of the tournament,” said Qantas International CEO Cam Wallace.

Flight QF90 will depart Cape Town at 16h40 and arrive in Sydney at 13h45 the following day.
