FROM July 1, Ethiopian
Airlines will make
changes to its
schedules and routings
between Cape Town and
Addis Ababa by increasing
the number of direct CPTADD
flights from two to four.
The airline will also increase
its current Durban flights
from three to four weekly.
Currently, the airline
operates nine flights a week
from Cape Town, two of
which are direct to Addis
Ababa, four via Gaborone
and three via Johannesburg.
From July 1, the airline will
operate four flights a week
via Johannesburg and four
direct from Cape Town. In
addition to its current daily
ADD-JNB-ADD flight, the
extra flight via JNB brings
the airline’s total flights
from JNB to 11 a week.
The Gaborone-Addis Ababa
route will operate as a
separate direct flight.
Flight ET 846 will
depart CPT on Mondays,
Wednesdays, Fridays and
Sundays at 20h45 and
arrive in JNB at 22h35. It
departs JNB at 23h35 and
arrives in ADD at 06h00 the
following day.
Return flight ET 847 will
depart ADD at 09h40 and
arrive in CPT at 15h30.
Flight ET 848 will
depart CPT on Mondays,
Wednesdays, Thursdays
and Saturdays at 12h05 to
arrive in ADD at 20h00.
Return flight ET 849 will
depart ADD on the same
days at 23h00 and arrive
in JNB at 03h53 the next
day. It then departs JNB at
04h53 to arrive in CPT at
07h13.
The additional DurbanAddis
Ababa flight will
operate on Tuesdays and
complement the existing
flights on Sundays,
Wednesdays and Fridays.
Flight ET 844 will depart
Durban at 14h30 and arrive
in Addis Ababa at 21h40.
Return flight ET 845 departs
Addis Ababa on Wednesdays
at 08h30 and arrives in
Durban at 13h30.
The service will be
operated using a Boeing
737-800.
Ethiopian Airlines will
also change the aircraft on
its Cape Town route from
a Boeing 737 to a Boeing
787, increasing capacity per
flight from 137 passengers
to 286.
“The change follows the
increased demand that
necessitated higher capacity
equipment,” says Abel
Alemu, regional manager
South Africa Ethiopian
Airlines.
