Travel intelligence platform, Mabrian, has said that the number of flight cancellations across Europe represent small percentages of each airline’s daily flight operations and may not be as dire as they appear.
The company has compiled a list of the ten European countries that have cancelled the most flights between July 1 and 15, excluding last-minute cancellations. They are Germany, UK, Italy, Spain, France, Netherlands, Greece, Austria, Portugal, and Denmark, according to Mabrian.
These cancellations have not necessarily been voluntary, as airports are currently asking airlines to cancel numbers of flights to relieve congestion due to the airports’ own understaffing.
Mabrian emphasised that, as European airlines were providing alternative flights in many cases, the number of people having to cancel plans was not that high.
“We must keep some perspective on this overall situation, as when we look at the overall numbers in terms of percentage of the air capacity of an airline, what we notice is that in many cases the cancellations in relative terms are very low – the lowest rate of the top 10 being Air Europa with under 0,5% of flights cancelled, which means that 199 out of 200 are still scheduled to fly,” a release notes.
