Florence is banning rickshaws, golf carts and other unconventional tourist vehicles from the city’s historic centre.

According to Florence Daily News, all forms of atypical tourist vehicles will be prohibited within the Unesco World Heritage Site, with the exception of a limited number of small electric shuttles.

Electric tourist shuttles with a maximum capacity of eight people, licensed by travel agencies or tour operators, will be allowed to operate on certain tourism routes.

They will only be allowed to pick up and drop off tourists on a Piazzale Vittorio Veneto route and a Piazzale Michelangelo route. A maximum of 24 shuttles will be authorised to operate the tourist routes, with 12 shuttles on each route.

The regulation has been approved, but the implementation date has not yet been announced.
