Charlie Roberts has passed away on December 6 in Tasmania, at the age of 69.
Charlie was one of the founders of Shearwater Rafting Zimbabwe with Connelly and Brookes, circa 1980. He was Zimbabwe manager for Qantas, then subsequently held various other positions in Australia, returning to South Africa as Qantas country manager. After retiring, he ran his own import business in South Africa.
Charlie had a wide circle of friends in South Africa, especially in aviation circles and in the wider travel industry. He was a knowledgeable and respected airline man. He had a passion for the African bush. Another great love was music and he was something of an expert on the Beatles.
Charlie was diagnosed with melanoma in March 2018.
He leaves four adult children, Rory, Jono, Weezy and Davey.
A memorial is being held in Launceston, Tasmania at 11h00 (local time) on Monday December 14, and according to his family, memorials will also be held in Zimbabwe and South Africa in due course.
