FlyGabon will launch direct flights from its hub in Libreville to Johannesburg on July 2.

The new Gabonese carrier will operate the route twice weekly on the following schedule:

  • Flight J7 631 will depart Johannesburg on Wednesdays at 08h30 and arrive in Libreville at 12h15. The second weekly flight on Sundays will depart Johannesburg at 10h15 and arrive in Libreville at 14h00.
  • Flight J7 630 will depart Libreville on Tuesdays at 14h00 and arrive in Johannesburg at 19h45. The second weekly flight on Fridays will depart Libreville at 14h30 and arrive in Johannesburg at 20h15.

The new route will be operated by an Airbus A320-200, offering a seating capacity of up to 142 passengers, with both economy- and business-class cabins.

Travellers will also be able to continue onward to further destinations in Central and West Africa, including Port Harcourt, Douala, Brazzaville, Malabo and Bangui.

FlyGabon General Director, Nyl Charles Moret-Mba, told Travel News that it has selected Johannesburg as its first international destination beyond Central and West Africa due to the city’s strategic position as a major hub for business, trade, healthcare and tourism on the continent.

Gabon is expected to attract South African business travellers in the oil industry and leisure travellers looking to explore its jungles, one of the last strongholds of forest elephants, mandrills, chimpanzees, gorillas and the endangered giant pangolin.

FlyGabon will be available on major GDS platforms in South Africa under one of the three codes: J7*A1 / J7*W1 / J7*H1. Commissions built on tailored compensation plans will be offered to registered agents for sales made on the J7*A1 inventory and later on the J7 code when that becomes available.

Travel agents can access promotional materials, route information, and sales support through the official FlyGabon website and industry portals.
