The Global Business Travel Association of South Africa (GBTASA) held its 15th Annual Conference on August 20 and 21.

The conference was attended by 150 delegates from over ten countries, including Singapore, France, Cameroon, Tanzania, Kenya, Algeria, Senegal, Madagascar, the US and the UK.

The much-anticipated annual awards ceremony was held during the conference, with recognition given to the top travel buyer, supplier and TMC of 2024. GBTASA has revived its Awards because it believes that, in the challenging and highly complex industry, peer recognition is more important now than ever before.

Mariette van der Merwe of Sasol was awarded Travel Buyer of the Year. Supplier Key Accounts Manager (KAM) of the Year was Farahnaz Ebrahim of Emirates. Jonathan Scott of FCM Travel was named TMC Key Account Manager of the Year.

Maureen Masuku, GBTASA Board Chairperson, said membership figures had been increasing steadily from 2021 to 2024, growing from 14 to 48 members.
