Gulf to launch Schengen-type visa

13 May 2024

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has announced that a unified tourist visa system will be launched by the end of the year.

The visa will allow travellers to explore the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman and Qatar for up to 30 days. The announcement was made by the United Arab Emirates Minister of Economy, Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, at the Arabian Travel Market.

The intention is that the unified visa will be helpful in projecting the GCC countries’ tourism potential to the world by becoming a single tourism unit. The plan to roll out GCC railways between the countries is the second phase of the plan.

The Gulf’s version of a Schengen visa will make travel in the area cheaper and more accessible for international tourists, particularly for Haj and Umra travellers. The visa concept has been in the pipeline since October last year.
