HKG gives away half a million air tix

Hong Kong has announced that it will give away 500 000 airline tickets to the value of HKD2bn (R4,5bn), as it tries to boost its COVID-hit tourism industry.

The tickets were purchased to support Hong Kong airlines during the pandemic and will now be distributed to inbound and outbound travellers by the airport authority next year, reports BBC News

Details of the give-away have not yet been confirmed, with Executive Director of the Hong Kong Tourism Board, Dane Cheng, saying: "Once the government announces that it will remove all COVID-19 restrictions for inbound travellers, we'll roll out the advertising campaigns for the free air tickets."

According to Cheng, the airport authority also still needs to finalise the arrangements with the airline companies.
