The Department of International Relations and Cooperation and SAA have received approval for a repatriation flight from Thailand, the SA embassy in Bangkok has confirmed.
Flight SA2285 is scheduled to depart on May 8 from Bangkok to Johannesburg.
Passengers will need to register on the SAA portal and record their reference number, which will initiate the process for their flight approval.
The cost of a one-way ticket from Bangkok to Johannesburg will be R15 000. All passengers who are already in possession of SAA tickets for the same route will be able to utilise them as partial credit for the flight, according to the SAA website.
Once a passenger is informed of their SA 2285 flight approval, they will need to pay the cost of the ticket by EFT and submit proof of payment to the embassy as soon as possible. A dedicated email for that process will be sent in due course.
The embassy said South African citizens in Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos should note that Thailand currently prohibits the entry of non-Thai nationals. “Please be assured that we are looking for a solution to repatriate you from those countries as you will unfortunately not be allowed to board this flight,” the statement said.
