Passenger demand in July, measured in revenue passenger kilometres (RPK), was up 4% compared with July 2024. This is higher than the 2,6% measured in June.
Total capacity, measured in available seat kilometres (ASK), was up 4,4% year-on-year, while the July load factor was 85,5% (a 0,4 percentage point decrease compared with July 2024).
International demand rose 5,3% compared with last year, while capacity was up 5,8% year-on-year. Load factors fell in all regions except Africa.
IATA’s report revealed a 2,8% year-on-year increase in demand for African airlines, with capacity up 2,3% year-on-year. The load factor was 74,9% (a 0,4 percentage point increase compared with July 2024). Routes between Africa and Asia had a notable surge.
“Momentum has grown over the peak season with July demand reaching 4% growth. That trend appears across all regions and is particularly evident for international travel, which strengthened from 3,9% growth in June to 5,3% in July,” said Willie Walsh, IATA Director General.
