The International Civil Aviation Organization’s State of Global Aviation Safety 2025 Edition revealed a rapid increase in accidents and fatalities in 2024 compared with 2023.
In 2024 there were 95 accidents compared with 66 in 2023, representing a 43,9% increase. The global accident rate, accidents per million flight departures, stood at 2,56, compared with 1,87 in 2023, representing a 36,8% increase.
Nevertheless, both the total number of accidents and the global accident rate in 2024 were lower than the levels in 2019, despite higher passenger traffic.

Asia-Pacific also had the most fatalities at 185, followed by South America with 62, Europe and North Atlantic with 40, North and Central America with six, Eastern and Southern Africa with two and the Middle East with one, totalling 296 fatalities worldwide.
