Intrepid expands property portfolio into Africa

As part of its broader plan to expand its hospitality portfolio, Intrepid Travel acquired a traditional Moroccan riad in Marrakesh.

The traditional Moroccan guesthouse covers 470 square metres and is a five-minute walk from the famous medina quarter Unesco World Heritage Site.

Intrepid’s guests can embark on culinary experiences in the medina and on-site, with chefs being recruited via Intrepid’s foundation partner, the Amal Association, which provides culinary skills training to women in Morocco.

This is the latest move in Intrepid’s new strategy to create a portfolio of boutique accommodation experiences. The company has plans to grow to 20 properties worldwide in the next three years.

The tour operator also acquired the 20-room Edge of the Bay resort in Tasmania, Australia, this year. In 2023, Intrepid purchased the Daintree Ecolodge in tropical north Queensland, and a multi-year lease on a hotel in Hoi An in Vietnam.

The properties can also be booked independently of Intrepid Travel.
