Japan to remove remaining COVID regs

Japan has announced that it will remove its remaining COVID-related border regulations next month.

According to a notice posted by the Japan National Tourism Organisation, from May 8, all border measures to prevent the spread of the virus will be lifted. The changes mean travellers entering Japan will no longer have to provide a valid vaccination certificate or a negative test result.

Japan reopened to independent travellers in October last year. Prior to this, travellers could only visit the country if they had booked an approved package tour.

Although Japan has relaxed most of its COVID travel restrictions, including removing its mask requirement in March, travellers still had to show proof of either vaccination or a negative test result on arrival.
