KENYAN President, Uhuru
Kenyatta, has introduced
initiatives as part of
a strategy to help the
country’s tourism sector to
recover. Incentives include
the expansion of Malindi
Airport, a reduction on
Kenya Wildlife Service
(KWS) park fees, and the
continued construction
of Dongo Kundu bypass,
a proposed road that
will connect Mombasa
mainland (south and west)
without having to pass
through Mombasa Island.
KWS park fees will be
reduced from US$90
(R1 481) to US$60 (R988)
for the 2016/17 financial
year. The president has
directed the National
Treasury to follow up on
the directive and amend
the respective laws for full
implementation.
The construction of the
Dongo Kundu bypass
is under way and, once
completed, will allow
tourists the option
of travelling from the
mainland to the South
Coast without using a
ferry.
