Following her announcement last week that leisure travel within one’s own province would be allowed, Minister of Tourism, Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane, has today (August 6) signed the regulations into effect.

The regulations now allow couples and ‘nuclear families’ to share rooms when they travel for leisure (as long as they don't cross a provincial boundary). Only accredited accommodation establishments may operate under these regulations. Homestays, such as Airbnb are prohibited from hosting guests.

The regulations also make guided tours (again only intra-provincially) legal again, provided the operators strictly follow the directives as set out in the regulations.

This includes keeping detailed records, including ID and telephone numbers, of tour participants, and those must be handed over to the government on demand.
