London black taxis go green

Gett, a ground transport service company in London, has partnered with Sherbet, an electric taxi fleet.

The partnership adds 400 electric taxis to Gett’s UK network and can be booked directly on the Gett app or website. The new fleet and Gett platform will allow customers and businesses to track their carbon footprint.

“We are delighted to welcome Sherbet to our network, especially at a time when we are expecting a trend towards higher growth in demand for business travel and last-mile transport solutions. We are looking forward to a productive collaboration that fits our sustainable approach to ground transportation,” said Guy Gaash, VP of Global Partnerships at Gett.

According to Gett, using a Sherbet e-black taxi saves about 139g of carbon emissions per 2,5km compared with diesel-powered black taxis. Now, over 54% of the vehicles available on the Gett platform are either electric or hybrid vehicles.

According to businesstraveller.com, Gett’s sustainability initiative also includes calculating 100% of the carbon emitted for every ride booked and completed through its platform and donating 2p (47 cents) per ride to the Trees for Cities charity.

The agreement means Sherbet drivers will gain access to Gett’s real-time booking platform – previously the electric fleet required pre-booking. It will also offer Sherbet drivers disability awareness training.

Sherbet will offer a range of exclusive discounts to existing Gett drivers wanting to switch to an electric vehicle.
