Madagascar Airlines expands domestic network

Madagascar Airlines has partnered with the Ministry of Transport and Meteorology to launch a transversal air service programme that will see the expansion of the carrier’s domestic network.

The new East-North routes will link Nosy Be, Toamasina, Sainte-Marie, Antalaha, Maroantsetra and Sambava, improving connectivity between several regions of the island.

According to the airline, the new routes significantly reduce travel times between destinations that are often difficult and time-consuming to reach by road. Journeys that previously took several hours, or even a full day, can now be completed in 35 minutes to one hour 15 minutes.

The routes are operated by a Let L-410 Turbolet, a 19-seat aircraft designed to operate from short runways and secondary airfields.

“These transversal lines mark a major step forward for territorial continuity and the opening up of the regions. Madagascar Airlines welcomes the support of the Malagasy State to mobilise appropriate resources to strengthen connectivity and support local economic development,” said Karl Andrianony, CCO of Madagascar Airlines.
