Madagascar Airlines reveals revitalisation plan

Madagascar Airlines, the national carrier of Madagascar, celebrated the progress of its revitalisation strategy, Phoenix 2030, with the arrival of its second ATR72 in three months.

The ATR72 is also part of a larger fleet renewal plan that includes aircraft refurbishments, acquisition of new aircraft, increased investment in maintenance and ground equipment, recruitment and training and the improvement of digital processes and safety, says the airline.

In May 2024, the revitalisation plan received approval and funding from the World Bank, as reported by Travel News. The loan was approved to be used to renew the airline’s ATR72-500 fleet, enhance its digital systems, improve its services and strengthen the carrier’s reputation.

The airline also unveiled a strategic alliance with Air France, and plans to establish a hub in Ivato, 272km south of Antananarivo, to facilitate international connections and tourism development.

Additionally, to address historic issues with corruption and mismanagement, the carrier is implementing new management and performance monitoring tools to ensure its profitability and development.

“Madagascar Airlines is aware of the challenges ahead but remains determined to pursue its transformation with rigour and perseverance. The company thanks its partners, teams, and all those who contribute to this renaissance,” said the statement.
