The Cape Cycle Challenge, which was scheduled to take place in March, has been postponed along with the accompanying Cycle Tour Expo. This is as a result of the second wave of COVID-19 infections in South Africa.
In a media statement, the organisers of the event said hosting a mass participation event in any format was untenable for the immediate future. “The Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust has thus taken the decision to postpone the hosting of the 2021 edition of the event to a later date in the year.”
The event is the largest individually timed cycle race in the world, attracting 35 000 cyclists every year, both from South Africa and around the world.
Travel News understands that the organisers are currently considering October for the new 2021 tour date.
