Mauritius will establish a National Aviation Council to review the country’s approach to air access, including requests from foreign airlines seeking rights to fly to the island.
Reporting to Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam, the council will take a broader approach to air access decisions rather than considering individual requests primarily through Air Mauritius.
Ramgoolam announced the council earlier this month following a working session with a delegation from Air Mauritius.
The new council will comprise of representatives from Air Mauritius, the civil aviation authorities, as well as professionals with experience in aviation and air access policy.
Ramgoolam said the Government of Abu Dhabi had expressed interest in launching flights to Mauritius. The proposed service will be considered by the National Aviation Council as part of a broader government initiative extending beyond the aviation sector.
