Mojang Studios, the creator of best-selling game Minecraft and game development subsidiary of Microsoft, has partnered with Merlin Entertainments, a creator of branded entertainment destinations, to construct Minecraft-themed attractions in the UK and US.

“Our vast and diverse community is always looking for new opportunities to explore and engage with Minecraft, and we are thrilled to build touchpoints around the globe that will surprise and delight them,” said Kayleen Walters, VP of Franchise Development for Gaming at Microsoft.

The attractions will allow guests to immerse themselves in physical Minecraft worlds, with digitally-enabled experiences and touchpoints to unlock exclusive in-game content.

Merlin will be investing in excess of £85 million (R1,9 billion) in the first two attractions, which will launch in the US and the UK between 2026 and 2027. This will include the development of first-of-its-kind concepts for Minecraft-themed guest accommodation, retail, and food and beverage, alongside exciting experiences such as Minecraft-themed rides. Longer-term, Merlin plans to expand these experiences to other destinations globally.

“Minecraft is the best-selling video game of all time, and this world-first will see fans experience its thrill and creativity in real life, at theme parks and city-centre attractions in leading tourist destinations,” said Scott O’Neill, CEO of Merlin Entertainments.
