MK: No more free sports equipment

Effective June 1, Air Mauritius will charge for sports equipment; currently, the first piece is free of charge.

On short- and medium-haul flights, sports equipment will cost €75 (R1 520) per piece. This includes flights between Mauritius and Réunion, Antananarivo, Johannesburg, Cape Town, Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Kuala Lumpur and Perth.

On long-haul flights, sports equipment will cost €110 (R2 230) per piece. This includes flights between Mauritius and Paris-Charles de Gaulle, London Gatwick, and Geneva. This will also include flight combinations of two short- or medium-haul legs.

Hiked excess baggage rates

Additionally, from June 1, Air Mauritius will increase its fees for excess baggage.

Currently, the airline charges €50 (R1 010) for the first additional bag and €80 (R1 620) for the second additional bag on flights from South Africa to Mauritius, Rodrigues, Réunion and Madagascar. This will increase to €65 (R1 320) and €100 (R2 025) respectively.

For flights to France, the airline charges €100 (R2 025) for the first additional bag and €200 (R4 050) for the second additional bag. This will increase to €110 (R2 230) and €240 (R4 860), respectively.

For flights to India and Malaysia, the charges are €200 (R4 050) for a second additional bag. This will increase to €220 (R4 455).

The charge for flights to Australia is €200 (R4 050) for a second additional bag. This will increase to €240 (R4 860).

On flights to the UK and Switzerland, the charges are €200 (R4 050) for a second additional bag. This will increase to €240 (R4 860).
