The 2026 Kruger Bird & Wildlife Challenge raised R200 000 for the conservation of the endangered White-winged flufftail.
Between February 12 and 21, teams journeyed the length of Kruger National Park from Punda Maria in the north to Berg-en-Dal in the south, collectively recording 363 species.
The funds will go to BirdLife South Africa to protect the critically endangered White-winged flufftail.
The species is known to inhabit the high-altitude wetlands of Ethiopia and South Africa and may number fewer than 2 000 mature individuals globally, with most of the population found in South Africa.
The event was hosted in partnership with Rockjumper Birding Tours and was supported by ZEISS, Ford Wildlife Foundation, Painted Wolf Wines, SANParks, Santa Nature Reserve and the Firefinch birding app.
