Nashville International Airport will be renamed in honour of country music icon Dolly Parton after its governing board voted unanimously to approve the change.
The Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority (MNAA) voted 6-0 on September 11 to rename the airport, with the new name expected to be introduced in the coming months.
“We are grateful for the tremendous support and enthusiasm from our community and Dolly’s fans around the world and we look forward to sharing additional details as plans are finalised,” the MNAA said in a statement.
The proposal gained momentum following Parton’s death last month at the age of 80, with Tennessee Governor Bill Lee and the airport authority backing the tribute to the singer’s legacy in her home state.
