The Lufthansa Group has announced new rules for the carrying and use of power banks on board across its airlines.
With immediate effect, the following restrictions apply:
- A maximum of two power banks per passenger.
- Power banks may not be stowed in the overhead bins. They must either be stowed in the seat-pocket or in carry-on baggage under the seat.
- The charging of electronic devices from a power bank is no longer permitted unless it is to charge essential medical devices.
- Passengers may not charge a power bank from the aircraft’s electrical supply.
- Maximum battery power permitted is 100 watt-hours. Power banks between 100 and 160 watt-hours must receive prior airline approval.
The same rules will apply for e-cigarettes.
Power banks are prohibited in checked-in luggage.
