More airlines introduce power bank rules

The Lufthansa Group has announced new rules for the carrying and use of power banks on board across its airlines.

With immediate effect, the following restrictions apply:

  • A maximum of two power banks per passenger.
  • Power banks may not be stowed in the overhead bins. They must either be stowed in the seat-pocket or in carry-on baggage under the seat.
  • The charging of electronic devices from a power bank is no longer permitted unless it is to charge essential medical devices.
  • Passengers may not charge a power bank from the aircraft’s electrical supply.
  • Maximum battery power permitted is 100 watt-hours. Power banks between 100 and 160 watt-hours must receive prior airline approval.

The same rules will apply for e-cigarettes.

Power banks are prohibited in checked-in luggage.
