Mozambique roads start taking their tolls

THOSE travelling from South Africa to Mozambique by road will now have to fork out approximately R15.20 (depending on the currency variation) for a motor vehicle or about R38 for a tour bus at the country's first tollgate, which opened on Monday, August 21.
So says Hannes van Wyk, human resources and environmental manager for TransAfrica Concessions (Trac), the Johannesburg-based company which received the first privately-owned tollroad contract from both the SA and Mozambique governments.
The first tollgate opened at Moamba, with the second one due to open on the road between Maputo and Matola in December this year.
Van Wyk says the tollgate will accept cash or a pre-paid debit card which was specifically designed for local road users as well as frequent road users such as tour operators.
