MSC Cruises, in partnership with marine conservation organisation, ORCA, will host a dedicated marine mammal observer on board MSC Poesia’s inaugural Alaskan itinerary.
The observer will spend a month studying whales’ reactions to the presence of cruise ships to better inform MSC’s future whale-avoidance training.
Guests will also benefit from observer-led educational sessions, including an introduction to ORCA’s citizen science initiatives, which invite members of the public to participate in and collaborate on research projects.
The ship is due to sail during the peak whale season from late July through August.
