The MSC Magnifica is to undergo major extension work at the start of 2021.
About 23 metres is to be added to the vessel at a cost of R2bn. This will include 215 extra cabins, an additional 800 sqm of sundeck, a new water park, a redesigned kids’ area, two new restaurants and a new shopping area.
Once completed, the total number of balcony cabins will account for 63% of the overall ship.
The renovation will also feature two important onboard environmental advances: a state-of-the-art Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system and a next-generation Advanced Wastewater Treatment (AWT) system.
SCR technology purifies used wastewater to near tap-water quality. The system meets the so-called Baltic Standard and treats wastewater to a higher standard than in most cities around the world.
To help reduce and continuously minimise emissions while in port, the ship will be able to “plug in” to local power grids wherever such systems are available.
MSC Cruises has opened sales for MSC Magnifica for mid-2021, sailing from Southampton, UK. The vessel will operate a programme of brand-new itineraries encompassing Northern Europe, the Baltic capitals, the Canary Islands and Madeira as well as the Mediterranean.
