American Airlines and British Airways have partnered to invest $344m (R4,9bn) to make terminal 8 a New York service hub. Together, the two airlines will offer a total of 14 daily flights from JFK to London from the new terminal.
Upgrades to Terminal 8 at John F. Kennedy International Airport have now started.
The upgrades to Terminal 8 will give customers premium check-in space, new joint lounges, a larger variety of retail and dining options and an enhanced baggage system.
Five additional gates for widebody aircraft and four adjacent hard stands (ramp parking where customers are transported to/from terminal via bus) will also form part of the infrastructural expansion.
Customers arriving in New York will be able to connect more conveniently from Terminal 8 (American Airlines’ JFK hub) on to other AA flights.
Construction is scheduled to be completed in 2022.
