New satellite terminal for Shanghai Pudong Airport

Shanghai Pudong International Airport is to open a new satellite airport terminal.

The new building is to the south of terminals T1 and T2, and will consist of two terminals, S1 and S2.

A mass transit railway system will connect the satellite terminal with the main terminals this month.

The S1 terminal will be connected to T1 via the railway system west line, and will be used to serve China Eastern and its subsidiary, Shanghai Airlines. The S2 terminal will be connected to T2 via the railway system east line and will serve China Southern, Air China and other member airlines of Star Alliance. The two satellite terminals are connected to each other via a corridor.

Passengers will need to check-in at T1 or T2, before taking the railway to the new facilities for boarding.

The Shanghai Airport Authority says the satellite terminal building is designed to “act as a transfer stop that can save passengers time in changing planes”.

The exact opening date of the facility is not known, however Delta has issued an airport advisory on its website, informing passengers that it will operate from the new satellite terminal from September 23.
