Abuja has opened Sunrise Waterpark, an entertainment feature and a recreation centre developed by Nadeem Group – a private engineering, real estate, hospitality, and management consultancy.

The waterpark has eight different water slides, a wave pool, a lounging pool, a lazy river pool, an action lagoon, and a ninja bouncing course. Facilities include a restaurant, café and ice cream kiosks as well as private cabanas and a VIP pool area.

During the inauguration, Nyesom Wike, Nigeria’s Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), announced that the waterpark was an FCT Administration initiative and formed part of the Renewed Hope Action Plan that aimed to incentivise investors interested in developing the country’s tourism sector.

Wike expressed optimism about the untapped potential of the tourism sector in Nigeria and said, with the right investments and developments, the sector could attract high foreign exchange revenue, significantly boosting the country’s economy.

The Renewed Hope Action Plan has promised to upgrade existing entertainment venues and construct new ones across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones through public-private partnerships.

The Sunrise Waterpark is FCT’s first successful public-private tourism venture. FCT is also considering incentivising investors to develop other attractions, such as a fishing site in Yaba, the Ushafa Pottery Centre, and the Millennium Tower projects.
