Nile river cruises and excursions halted

Two river cruise operators offering Nile itineraries and excursions are cancelling certain offerings amid conflict in the Middle East.

Viking River Cruises

In a notice published on March 3, Viking River Cruises announced that it would cancel its Egyptian Nile itineraries until March 31.

Both Viking’s Pharaohs & Pyramids and Total Eclipse on the Nile itineraries, as well as their 22 combined shore excursions, are cancelled for the month of March.

The river cruise line said it had informed all affected guests and noted that other itineraries would not be impacted.

“Our global operations team remains in close contact with relevant authorities and security advisers and we will continue to assess developments as they unfold,” said Viking River Cruises.

“The safety and security of our guests and crew is always our highest priority. If conditions change, we are fully prepared to respond swiftly and appropriately.”

AmaWaterways

While AmaWaterways’ Nile River itineraries, which depart on March 5 and 7, will proceed as planned, the boutique cruise line announced that its Jordan and Dubai land excursion programmes, offered with its Nile itineraries, would be cancelled through March 31.

Additionally, the cruise line has suspended its four-night post-cruise land package in Israel indefinitely. Guests with the post-cruise Israel package scheduled to depart on the Secrets of Egypt & the Nile itinerary starting in Cairo will be refunded for the Israel land portion as well as the Cairo to Tel Aviv airfare.

Travel advisers and guests with a March reservation who would prefer to adjust their travel plans may rebook to another 2026 itinerary without penalties.

AmaWaterways is represented by Cruises International in the South African market.
