Oz resort offers reef rehabilitation activities

Fitzroy Island Resort, in northwest Queensland, in collaboration with Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Centre and Sunlover Reef Cruises, is providing visitors with the opportunity to help conserve the Great Barrier Reef. 

Resort guests and day visitors and can take part in activities such as caring for injured turtles, as well as monitoring and planting coral. 

The resort is the first to offer guests this hands-on experience together with the rehabilitation centre. Visitors can learn how to safely and ethically assist injured marine mammals that may be trapped in nylon wrapping or suffering from micro-plastic ingestion. 

Sunlover Reef Cruises offers activities such as glass-bottom boat tours and snorkelling, learning about marine life and how to plant cuttings from a coral nursery to regenerate damaged sections of the reef.
