Perth Airport has begun a major expansion and overhaul of its Terminal 2.
The renovations include new self-service check-in facilities, an expanded passenger screening area and departure lounge, and an extension of the baggage make-up hall. The airport will also see new car parks, roads and upgrades to its retail and food and beverage offerings.
Design work to upgrade the southern passenger walkway is also under way.
Perth Airport CEO Jason Waters said the expansion was in response to significant growth in passenger numbers. The airport saw regional passenger numbers grow from six million to 6,24 million over the past year, representing a 3,7% increase.
“These works are critical to support our growing regional passenger base as it will almost double the passenger capacity within Terminal 2,” said Waters.
Waters warned construction may cause some disruption during the upgrade period.
