Qatar Airways’ passengers travelling between Cape Town and Doha will soon be able to access Starlink connectivity onboard certain flights, allowing them to enjoy a fully complimentary and ultra-fast Wi-Fi service for streaming, gaming and working as the airliner cruises to its destination. And it will be free of charge.
From June 1, the carrier will introduce a B777 on the Doha-Cape Town route to operate just one of its seven weekly flights, the remainder being operated with the existing A350.
This comes as the Starlink roll-out of the airline’s Boeing 777 fleet nears completion. According to a media release, the airline has now progressed to equipping its Airbus A350 fleet with Starlink. QR says it will be the first airline to bring Starlink wifi to this aircraft type.
The airline claims to be the first carrier in the MENA region to offer a fully complimentary Starlink service, the fastest onboard wifi service. It also says it operates the largest Starlink-equipped fleet of Boeing 777s in the world.
Qatar Airways serves Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg with up to 28 weekly flights.
