RAILEUROPE has advised that, effective January 1, 2011, the government of Greece has suspended all international rail (TRAINOSE) services indefinitely, including services between Greece and Sofia, Belgrade, Bucharest and Istanbul, leaving the only access to the country via ferry from Italy.
As this decision may affect the Eurail Select Pass and Balkan Flexipass in the coming months, all travellers wishing to travel to/from Greece should be informed that there is no international rail service currently operating.
Rail Europe will contact affected ticket/pass holders, as necessary. Refund requests should be directed to Customer Relations. Customers are asked to include their original tickets and any supporting documentation.
Please note that currently, domestic rail travel within Greece is not affected.
