Royal Caribbean will not be making stops at Labadee, its private destination in Haiti, until June 2027.
“As we continue to evaluate conditions in Haiti and our ability to deliver the best vacations responsibly, we have decided to extend the suspension of ship calls to Labadee through June 2027,” a Royal Caribbean Group spokesperson said in a statement.
“This decision was made with the safety and well-being of our guests and crew members in mind.” Royal Caribbean added that changes had been communicated directly with guests.
The statement comes as violence continues to escalate in the region. Monica Juma, Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, said in a briefing held on Monday July 20: “The scale, intensity and brutality of gang violence continue to escalate, with devastating consequences for the Haitian people.
“Gangs continue to expand their influence beyond the capital into Artibonite, the Centre Department and southern transport routes.”
