SCHEDULED services
to Skukuza Airport in
the Kruger National
Park include daily return
flights from Cape Town and
Johannesburg. This follows
the upgrade of the airport
by the Skukuza Airport
Management Company,
which is jointly owned by
Lion Sands, Federal Air and
Airlink.
Speaking at a briefing to
mark the reintroduction
of scheduled flights into
KNP, Airlink ceo, Rodger
Foster, said the revamped
airport enabled seamless
connectivity to the park. He
said care had been taken
while building the new runway
to minimise the impact on
the environment by saving
trees and integrating them
into the design of the airport
He said the flights, which
were launched on June 2,
had been well received. They
have capacity for between
37 and 85 passengers,
depending on the aircraft.
A second afternoon flight
between Johannesburg
and Skukuza commenced
on August 1, departing
Johannesburg at 13h20. The
return flight departs Skukuza
at 14h50. Air transfers will
also be introduced to lodges
where road transfers are
not practical. These will be
operated by Federal Airlines.
