CURRENT ceo of Mango,
Nico Bezuidenhout, has
been appointed acting
ceo of SAA, following the
alleged suspension of ceo
Monwabisi Kalawe by the
SAA board.
Chairperson of SAA,
Dudu Myeni, released
a statement last week
saying: “The SAA board has
resolved, in consultation
with the shareholder, to
appoint Nico Bezuidenhout
as acting SAA chief
executive officer, during the
absence from the company
of Monwabisi Kalawe.”
In a meeting with Public
Enterprises Minister
Lynne Brown, the Board
reported in writing that it
had lifted the suspension
of the ceo. Minister Brown
said in a statement: “As
a result, there are several
consequential procedural
matters that are being
dealt with between the
Board and the chief
executive officer and it will
be inappropriate for me to
comment until these have
been concluded.”
Meanwhile, the situation
at the airline is difficult to
determine. SAA remains
mum about the discord,
telling TNW it will comment
on some of the matters
“once the Board is ready to
issue [a statement]”.
