SAAT workers strike over pay cut

Workers at SAA Technical have called a strike over their salaries being cut from the 50% they received during lockdown to 25%, at the eleventh hour, just hours before salaries were paid, according to an eNCA report.

The report says the workers are demanding answers from management, while also complaining about the absence of management, alleging that the acting ceo has been outside the country since March. They also allege that management has not taken salary cuts, while imposing these on the workers. They say they were informed at the last minute about only being paid 25% of their salaries.

The strike comes at a time when SAAT has withdrawn its services to its two clients, Mango and SAA, for non-payment. Mango is understood to be flying its schedule by means of leasing aircraft. SAA remains grounded by its business rescue process.
