Schiphol Airport to upgrade public transport

Schiphol Airport is undergoing a €237m (R3,8bn) upgrade to its public transport facilities.

By 2025, improved train and bus stations will allow for increased capacity and easier flow of traffic.

The platforms at Schiphol Airport station will have more entrances and a new bus station will have direct access to the station via new walking routes at Schiphol Plaza.

The train station will also be given more access gates and other measures include rush hour avoidance; crowd control during peak hours; and improved train timetables.

In 2023, Airport Sprinters will be introduced between Amsterdam Central Station and Schiphol/Hoofddorp. They will depart eight times an hour from a fixed platform.

Authorities will also work on the extension of the North/South line to Schiphol and Hoofddorp.
