Self-service bag-drop tech for GOL domestic travellers

Brazilian airline GOL is introducing new self-service bag-drop technology for its domestic passengers travelling from Rio de Janeiro International Airport, with the service soon to be available at the São Paulo-Guarulhos International Airport.

According to a press statement the self-service option will halve the time it takes to check in a bag. “Each year, GOL flies around 32 million passengers,” the statement continues. “Providing significant reductions in the time it takes to check in is a major bonus for passengers, as well as helping GOL reach the targets set as part of the Iata Fast Travel programme.”

Air transport IT and communications specialist, Sita, is retro-fitting its Scan&Fly units at the airports, which, according to the statement, will see passengers able to check in their baggage in 40 seconds.

Sita will also provide support both on the ground and through Sita Command Centres, which will detect issues from surges in Internet use which can affect the airport, to alerting the ground teams that bag tag papers are running out.

Sergio Quito, vice president of GOL operations, said: “Self-service is important for us because it improves the customer experience and helps streamline our operations. SITA’s self bag-drop technology provides what we look for – it is fast, reliable and easy to use.”
