Singapore Airlines launches in-flight connectivity programme

Singapore Airlines has launched a multimillion-dollar in-flight connectivity programme to bring Internet and mobile data service to passengers.

The programme was launched on a limited number of aircraft recently but is now available on 14 aircraft, including all five A340-500s.

Passengers can surf the Internet, send and receive emails on smartphones and other electronic devices, and send and receive SMS messages with GSM-compatible mobile phones.

Singapore Airlines has a partnership with connectivity provider, OnAir, and the technology will be rolled out across all the long-haul A380-800 and B777-300ER aircraft over the next two years.

Services are offered on routes where equipped aircraft are deployed, subject to regulatory approvals from individual countries. A map of where the technology is available is published in the airline’s KrisWorld in-flight entertainment magazine.

From September 6, the airline is offering promotional price plans until November 30 – US$25 for 30 megabytes of data and US$10 for 10 megabytes of data. The previous plans cost US$29.95 for 26 megabytes and US$11.95 for 10 megabytes.
Singapore Airlines is also working on new in-flight entertainment offerings, to be announced soon.
