Singapore finalises SAF levy

The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) has finalised the cost of a Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) levy for all passengers departing Singapore from October 1, 2026, applicable for tickets sold from April 1, 2026.

Initially, CAAS had estimated between SGD3 (R39) and SGD16 (R209) for economy flights on short- and long-haul routes respectively, but now the costs will be:

  • Southeast Asia – SGD1 (R13) for economy cabins and SGD4 (R52) for premium cabins
  • Northeast/South Asia, Australia, Papua New Guinea – SGD2,80 (R37) for economy cabins and SGD11,20 (R146) for premium cabins
  • Africa, Central/West Asia, Europe, Middle East, Pacific Islands, New Zealand – SGD6,40 (R84) for economy cabins and SGD25,60 (R334) for premium cabins
  • Americas – SGD10,40 (R136) for economy cabins and SGD41,60 (R543) for premium cabins

The funds collected will go into a SAF fund managed by CAAS and will be used for the purchase of SAF and SAF environmental attributes.
