The Tourism Authority of Thailand has closed all smoking areas inside six of Airports of Thailand’s (AOT) properties.
The affected airports are Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Hat Yai and Mae Fah Luang Chiang Rai.
In November, the Ministry of Public Health, also listed ‘public areas of airports’ among several new zones where smoking of tobacco is prohibited.
The move to close all smoking rooms is in line with the 2017 Tobacco Control Act, and those in violation will incur a fine of up to 5 000 Baht (R2 216).
AOT has, however, made provision for designated smoking areas outside the terminals.
